The U23 of FC Schalke 04 is on the road in the Regionalliga West. They were supposed to play a home match against Preußen Münster at the Parkstadion today. But after the kick-off had already been postponed by almost half an hour, the game was first interrupted and then cancelled due to a thunderstorm warning.
The match on this 10th matchday of the Regionalliga West would have been a real top match. The Prussians from Münster are currently leading the table with a record of 7-1-1 from the first nine games. The II. FC Schalke 04 is in fourth place, although not within direct sight of the visitors in terms of points. Nevertheless, they would have liked to give the leaders a leg up and earn points of their own. But that did not happen.
Today there was a danger of thunderstorms over the Park Stadium
Initially, the local thunderstorm warning system had already indicated a danger in the immediate vicinity. When the referee then postponed the kick-off, this measure was not sufficient either. The FC Schalke 04 officials informed the referee in the 26th minute that there had been another thunderstorm warning.
At first, the game was only interrupted. Later, referee Marc Jäger decided not to blow the whistle at all on that day. Naturally, a make-up date has not been set. However, since the Regionalliga West will not interrupt its operations during the 2022 World Cup, it should not be too difficult to find a new date for the match between Schalke II and Preußen Münster.
